TOCA + Colectivo Parklets CR have been pioneer in the implementation of parklets in San Jose, participating in the first pilot projects and in the ongoing consolidation of the public policy.
Our studio has led the elaboration of the "Operational Manual for Implementing a Parklet in San Jose", alongside the Municipalities of San Jose and Belen, where, through extensive research conducted along 3 years of observation of pedestrians and citizens during urban interventions, we analyzed the lack of and angst for public space, based on three core pillars:
- public safety, cultural and community engagement, and urban mobility.
Since then, TOCA, in partnership with Colectivo Parklets CR, have been responsible for the design, implementation, and research of more than 20 parklets.

WHAT ARE PARKLETS?
By expanding the availability of public space, parklets promote street interaction and encourage non-motorized transportation.
Parklets transform the surrounding area, creating new dynamics and stimulating the appropriation of public space.
By replicating parklets, a network of walkable infrastructure is created in the city.
Through more attractive routes, parklets transform the neighborhoods in which they are located.
